Can You Feel It
Indiana outfit The Avenue drop their new EP and discuss their creative processes.
The Avenue
Hi and thanks for taking the time out to speak with us at Musicology.
Firstly congratulations on the new EP Can You Feel It. What challenges did you
encounter in putting out this EP and conversely what were some of the great surprises
during the writing / recording process?
The challenges were mostly due to line up changes but other than that, the recording and
writing process went very smoothly, the biggest surprise is kind of how some of these songs
started out with some a small/crappy idea and turned out great!
Have the tracks on the EP been with you for some time and only just now seeing the
light of day or are they are relatively very new?
We wrote especially for this release, it’s a lot different then what we would usually do, but we
wanted the songs to make sense together.
What subject matter do you address on the EP and is there a particular track that really
ignites the crowd?
For being such a slow song, “This Addiction” always gets the crowd hyped up and there isn’t
a dry eye in the venue. The best part about playing that song is that I barley have to sing it
haha! The crowd does most of the work and they do a great job!
You hail from Indiana in the mid-west. In what ways has this impacted on your music
given the current scene in Indiana?
Being from such a small town in Indiana, you tend to work harder to try and get out there in
the world as much as you can…I mean let’s face it, besides a few venues; there isn’t much
else for music here.
Your video clip for Ever After looks like it was a blast to make. Can you gives us a little
background into who produced it and where you guys filmed it?
Cody and I came up with the idea of having a very lo-fi 90’s themed video since it was going
on the world’s biggest music video site; VEVO. We thought that would be hilarious!
Christian Sarkine filmed the video and it was shot at The Gathering in Lewisville, IN.
Finding the right dynamic between fellow musicians and individual life trajectories,
The Avenue has seen some band members go and go over the course of your career.
Do you feel like you have struck the right balance with the current line-up?
Yes absolutely! After a line-up change, we feel that have finally found The Avenue.
You are about to hit the road and head off on tour. Are there some certain venues / cities
that you are particularly looking forward to playing?
We want to go to and see as many places as possible, it wouldn’t be fair to pick a favorite,
unless of course if we had the chance to visit Australia!
What does the rest of 2017 have install for you?
2017 includes releasing this new EP “Can You Feel It?” to hopefully a good response and
we’ve already hit the studio and have been started the recording process that will be our next
release which will be a full-length album.
