Hi guys and thanks for taking the time out to speak with us at Musicology.
You have just announced that Second Alibi will be on hiatus soon which begs the question why and why now?
Adam - We have been Second Alibi since 2014, and have had many amazing moments together, moments that I personally will never forget. When we started, we were two guys with one common goal and that was the extent of our relationship. I now can call Kody family, and always will. That said, I feel like we have accomplished all we can together and now it’s time to change the dynamic. The past few years have been a time of growth and education. I’m glad that Kody was the one standing next to me.
Your signature sound derives from an eclectic mix of genres. What is it that fascinates you about dance, electronic, RnB, and pop that helps shape your own musical stylings?
Kody - I like different genres for different reasons. Electronic/dance has great rhythm and movement, pop has amazing melodies and is so catchy. And I've had a big love of RnB since I was a kid, the vocals and feel of it are so beautiful.
After the release of your EP Ultimatum in 2016, did the feedback / reaction to it in anyway shape the course your LP took?
Adam - The EP was a collection of songs that really tested the waters. When we began recording demos for Ultimatum, we had no direction. We ultimately chose to go with more of a dance sound on the EP because we knew we wanted to dance on stage. Yet with the album, we had a better direction and knew where we wanted to experiment with our overall sound. I felt like we had unknowingly boxed ourselves in with that initial release. Fans came to know Second Alibi as an electronic/dance act and with the album we wanted to change that. I feel like we succeeded and fans were overwhelmingly supportive.
Having toured the nation throughout your time, what moments or inspirations were derived from your time on the road and how have they found their way into your music?
Kody - Touring has definitely been a blessing; I have never felt more on top of the world than when I actually had people screaming at us for our own original work. I think it has definitely made me play with that persona of fearlessness and rawness in my writing and performance.
What has been one of your most memorable gigs and why?
Adam - My most memorable gig was actually the first time that Kody and I performed our debut single “Ignite” in the summer of 2015. I specifically remember looking next to me and getting a feeling of “I’m not in this alone anymore.” It was very comforting to know that I was giving another artist a chance at success.
Receiving numerous accolades for your work must not only be a great
acknowledgment from the industry and your peers but also drive you towards pushing your musical boundaries even further?
Kody - Most definitely! I never thought we'd be getting awards so early on but it has definitely made us push even harder. To know that we are actually connecting with people makes all the hard work worth it and I like knowing that we did something right.
What does the future hold for Second Alibi?
Adam - As for the future of Second Alibi, who knows? We may come back for a reunion or release another album down the line. I will never say never, but I will say that I hope fans and followers will continue to support our solo endeavours, because we will always support each other.
